Who is responsible for Tax withholding?
The IRS classifies nannies as household employees, which makes families responsible for managing tax withholding. If you pay a nanny, babysitter, caregiver, or house manager more than $2,800 annually or $1,000 in a quarter for work in your home (or occasionally outside, such as in a nanny share), you are considered a household employer. Nannies and Newborn Care Specialists are rarely independent contractors, as they typically meet the IRS criteria for employees due to the employer’s control over their work schedule and duties. Proper classification ensures the employee receives Social Security, Medicare, and Unemployment Insurance benefits while also supporting their credit history. We will help recommend payroll software specific to nannies, to help ease this process.

What benefits are usually offered to FL Baby Concierge Newborn Care Specialist and Nanny?
Florida household employers are not required by law to have workers' compensation insurance. While every family’s arrangement is unique, it’s considered industry standard to offer professional nannies a competitive benefits package that reflects the value of their role. This often includes guaranteed weekly hours, paid time off (typically 2 weeks per year), paid holidays, and sick days. For long-term placements, many families also contribute to health insurance, offer annual bonuses, and provide mileage reimbursement or use of a family vehicle during work hours. These benefits help attract and retain highly qualified, career nannies — ensuring consistency, loyalty, and peace of mind for your family.
